Welcome to the Birdwatchers Club

Wow, what a great impromptu birding day at the West side of the San Dieguito Lagoon. A light overcast sky, 60°, no wind, and low tide made for perfect birding to find 39 species.
After birding the lagoon, we walked part way up Crest Canyon then went onto the historic Grand Avenue Bridge. There, we had close up looks at a Belted kingfisher, Yellowlegs, and a spotted sandpiper bobbing its tail end and watched a Harbor seal swim in front of us.
The spotting scope let us see an osprey on its nest. The osprey must have been using that site for years judging from the depth of the nest. The Bridge we birded from was built in 1942-1943 to provide access to a US Naval Auxiliary Air Facility where dirigibles, blimps, were based during WWII.
