Lake Hodges,  (Escondido)
March 10, 2015

This year Lake Hodges was covered with many shades of green vegetation and flowers of all colors and sizes including the California Poppy. Then there were the birds.  Vibrant blue on the Bluebirds and Scrub jays, yellow on the Kingbird and Yellow-rumped warbler, and a Savannah sparrow with its yellow eyebrow; two White-tailed kites were flying among the trees.

At the lake’s edge were Snowy and Great egrets, Cormorants and an Osprey sitting atop a branch.  The Grebes were heard before being seen.  Many were in pairs with several of the pairs “Rushing” where they run across the top of the water a short distance as a mating duo.  Another delightful bird walk ended with lunch at a great restaurant and pie shop.
